This week was an exciting week. Mentors in each class created a class quote that they want to share with their mentees as well as next year's mentors. They are trying to motivate and encourage their mentees into finishing the school year strong.
This week students also learned about the 11 steps to success. To wrap up the week we talked about Ditching school. Why do students ditch, and how can we encourage students to come to school everyday? Students discussed reasons why a person might ditch, what the consequences could be, and how to motivate students to come to school everyday. Many of the ideas on how to get students to come to school included doing a ride share between students. The students were very creative and engaged in the lessons this week.

March 7- March 11
This week students finished doing career and college research. Students created a profile of who they will be when they are 28 years old. On Thursday, students participated in a mock "10 year reunion". Students shared their profile of who they want to be, asked each other questions about their life. For example, students would ask questions like: What college did you attend, what did you major in, did you earn a masters degree, and what is your current job. It was great hearing students talk to one another as if they were attending a real 10 year reunion.

This week the mentees and mentors at Shaw Heights Middle School did more career research, college research, and created a profile of who they will be 10 years after high school. Next week we will be doing a mock 10 year reunion in the YESS classroom.
During the research process students discovered what the admission requirements were for the colleges of their choice. Some students realized that they will have to take Algebra, Algebra 2, and Geometry to get in to college. As of now, some students are low level math, which means they will need to buckle down and work hard to get to a high school level math by the time they get to high school. Some students made a plan of what level they would like to be when they leave Shaw.
To end the week we practiced doing job interviews. The students had fun learning what to do, and what not to do in a job interview.
